—————————————————————
Kenzly ,
I’m not really sure where to begin. I just want to tell you I love you, and I always have since that very first night on the couch, at your mom’s apartment. 8 short years, I have been able to be your friend, and watch your grow into an amazing little girl.
You have always been so kind, outgoing, loving, and always been there for me when I needed you the most. Even on the days I didn’t tell you I needed you, on the inside, i really did, and you were right there for me when I needed it.
In January, your life turned upside down, you went from being a beautiful, innocent little girl, to having to grow up really fast, a lot earlier than I would ever want you to.
You went from only having to worry about what game you were going to play on your phone, to worry about multiplication and division, because your life literally depends on it. Our ice cream dates, late night snacks without your mom knowing, and me sneaking you candy bars, was robbed, taken from us over night.
My little girl has Type 1 diabetes, and we never even got the chance to cry together, even though I’m crying as I type this. You have been so strong, and I am so proud of you for the young woman you’re growing into. I just want you to remember that this doesn’t define who you are, and it never will. It’s only complicated if you make it hard on yourself.
I know I’m not your real dad, but just know that I would literally do anything in the world for you. One time you told me that we aren’t friends, because I’m your parent. But ever since you have came into my life, you have truly been one of my best friends. I know I mess with you a lot, but it’s only because I can feel when you’re down, and I can’t stand it. I just want you to be happy.
In this box, this is for you, and together, we have the opportunity to change the future, the world, 115 million other people with diabetes, and possibly save others from having to go through this, and maybe, just maybe one day they will find a cure for it and it’ll be gone.
The Blue Matches your Diabetes Awareness Ribbon, and the Red symbolizes the constant pain and blood you have to go through.
For every one of these we sell, we will donate $1 directly to the American Diabetes Association, every time the donation name will say, Kenzly Allen, Type 1 Diabetes Survivor. And maybe one day, they can truly find a cure.
I just want to remind you I’m here for you, every day, any time of night. If you need someone to talk to I’m here. If you need someone to cry with I’m here. If you just need someone to be in silence with, I’m here. Just don’t ask me to get you toilet paper when you’re done taking a Kenzly.
Love,
Austin
